Donald David Furniture Design is a culmination of 25 years of woodworking. From cabinet making and furniture to log and timber-frame construction, I am committed to produce unique products of integrity. It all happens here in Vernon, British Columbia, Design and Quality of lasting appreciation.
My passion for furniture-making was realized in the late 1970’s. It was in the Kooteney’s at John Barton’s School of Woodworking where I discovered the art of woodworking and the books of James Krenov. Krenov has influenced many contemporary woodworkers. I am one of them. My design concepts and trades skills were refined with eleven years working in Germany. Another fourteen years here in the Okanagan has given me confidence of experience in various applied forms of woodworking.
My appreciation for furniture can be attributed to a certain piece. It was a chest that my great-grandfather Chris Willoughby made. He was a furniture-maker from Stillwater, Minnissota and made it for his wife, my great-grandma,Christine.
My childhood memory of that old cedar-lined oak chest, its amazing wood grain texture and intense aroma, is with me still today – as is the chest. Proudly to store my Hudson Bay Blankets in it, well aware of its lasting quality and personal history.
